Europcar had only 2 super-slow staff working and more than
12 people waiting to get their cars. One
would imagine that they could tell from the bookings how many people would be
there at 6am and put on some extra staff?
Needless to say.. a very
frustrating wait of about 45 minutes to get served.. and I was only ticket
number 4 !!!
Good news was that I could choose a car, so I managed to get
what I wanted.. a Vauxhall Insignia.
Bonus was that it was a turbo diesel.
What a drive!
Well, off on the way then!
I drove out and got on the M25 travelling south to junction
10, then onto the A3
After a couple of stops at services and some small towns along the way I headed south to Chichester.
From there I drove to Portsmouth, then around Southampton to Bournemouth
and then to Poole to take the ferry over to the Isle of Purbeck. After a short wait, the ferry returned and all
the cars drove on. The crossing only
takes about 4 minutes.
Then on to Corfe Castle for a quick visit.
I took a few pictures and stopped in at the
Greyhound Inn for my first pint! It was
a ‘Force Four’ golden ale from the Isle of Purbeck brewery.. delicious!
I then travelled on in the direction of my first stop..
Weymouth… but not so fast there laddie..
The traffic was backed up for miles! So I followed some cars that scooted off when
we got to a side road and then trusted the GPS.
When I eventually re-joined the main route, I was just behind a van that
I was following before!
I checked in at the Premier Inn and went for supper at the
Brewers Fayre next door. It was “Chip
Shop” night and for £7.99 I got ‘all you can eat’ fish and chips. Yum!
After a long first day (I was awake from 3:30am) I was
falling asleep in my beer.. so I took
myself off to bed..
Goodnight!
