After a great nights’ sleep at the Premier Inn, I went off
to see what Weymouth had to offer.
I took
a couple of pics and then headed for the Isle of Portland, famous for Portland Stone.
I never imagined the Isle to be so big!
There is also a medium security prison there.
After that I went back into Weymouth and parked close to the
centre and went to Boots for some cold and flu medicine, as I feel I am coming
down with something.
Then I was off towards Exeter. Beautiful drive, beautiful
scenery.
All was going according to plan.. I should be there by
2pm..
I was pulling off into a services to get something to eat
and just as was parking, the warning suddenly went off “OVERHEATING – SWITCH ENGINE
OFF”
At 1:30pm I called the breakdown number and was assured by
Ryan that the AA would be with me by 2:15pm.
2:30pm I phoned again.. Diane says she finds no record of
the call.. she will phone me back.. hmm.. still waiting…
By 3pm I get hold of Ryan again and told the guy was out,
but cancelled because he couldn’t find me! How much more info do you need than “In the
carpark outside ALDI Supermarket in Honiton with the bonnet up..” Jeezus…
maybe it was the blind man they sent?
In the meantime.. I am amusing myself by watching
people.. great fun if you have time..
and I had plenty… LOL!
All of a sudden.. I
saw the scariest thing I have seen in a long time!! OMG!!
I had to take a picture! Thank goodness
for zoom lens! :-)
Eventually by 3:45pm the AA duly arrive and Ben was most
helpful. Apart from a cursory glance
under the bonnet, he plugged in his computer and after a brief diagnostics and
a call to Vauxhall, he did a reset as it was only a software error (and a known
intermittent one)
He suggested we go to Exeter Airport and exchange the car in
case it happened again. He led the way..
I followed.
At Europcar, Bing was very helpful, but could only give me a
VW Passat. The boot is huge but nowhere as nice as the Vauxhall.
I transferred the luggage and left towards Torquay and
ultimately Paignton for the night. After
check in at the Premier Inn and not being excited by the Beefeater menu, Tim
(at reception) suggested I go to The Weary Ploughman Inn for supper... only 1.5 miles down the road.
Great place! I had a
steak and ale pie with chips and seasonal vegetables. ..Oh.. and a pint of local ale! ;-) Bays Topsail.
L8RZ!
