Day 15 - On The Narrowboat - The Welford Arm

Waking up in Crick to a perfect blue sky, we had a light breakfast and we're once again on our way up the canal towards Yelvertoft.

Beautiful scenery along the way, with perfect weather, glorious sunshine for a change!
We arrived in Yelvertoft and moored up.  We went into the village for a walk, to the little post office to purchase some airtime.  Our question about "can we buy some airtime?" Was very confusing to the post lady!  Apparently she explained to us, one just asks for "credit" and everyone will know what we mean!

We then left and cruised up some very narrow canals, with farms on either side.  Suddenly there was this lady farmer trying to get this huge bull to move along the field.  She had a long stick and a border collie dog.  Next thing the bull ran down to the waters edge, next minute the bull jumped into the canal right under the bridge we were about to go through!.  Paul immediately hit reverse and did an emergency stop.  We were only 10 meters away from this huge bull and after a few minutes, with a look of panic on his face, the bull managed to jump out of the canal and run back towards the farm. Strange things to see!

We then proceeded to travel towards the Welford Arm junction where we turned off towards Welford.

Such a beautiful canal.  Scenery was very special.  One more lock to go through.

Paul has been talking to all the boaters all day.  When the canals are busy, one tends to pass boats along the way, slower thank usual and there is time to have a quick few words.  So when we pulled into this lock two of the other boaters jumped out to work the lock with us.  Everybody is so friendly and helpful.

Once we moored at Welford for the night,  we took a stroll up into the village to buy bread for breakfast.  On the way we see some carvings that someone has made of tree stumps.

On our return, we continued to chat to one of the couples, Terry and Mandy, who invited us to their boat for drinks.
They have lived on their boat for six months.  It was so interesting to see inside.  Absolutely beautiful. White inside and very spacious.  We had drinks and a few hours chat.  Lovely couple.

Then eventually we left and crossed the car park to the Wharf Inn Pub, where we are sitting now, using their wi-fi, updating our blog.

Paul is having the Venison Pie, and I am trying something called a Nut Wellington, which we believe, if the waitress canon be believed, is a vegetarian version of the Beef Wellington.  Will let you know!

Hope we have a good night sleep tonight. We struggled last night, both of us, to sleep.  This bed is getting to us!  Also the boat was moored at a funny angle, and Paul kept rolling onto my side of the bed!!!
