Our day started off with good news from home, Beannie has
been found and Lauren fetched him from a vet in Parktown North and he is
fine. Thank you to our Angels.
So our journey begins today with a visit to StirlingCastle where the statue of Robert the Bruce, stands outside the castle walls,
overlooking the city. I tried to see
what was under his kilt, but it was too dark....
We managed to get some pics of the castle before the rain
started. 10 minutes later the sun is
shining and we are on our way to Glasgow, to see the address where Paul's
grandparents got married. It is a beautiful house, in a row of terrace houses,
with stained glass windows and door.
Also the area where his grandmother and grandfather lived, although
their houses have been demolished for modern apartments.
Glasgow is a beautiful city filled with modern office
blocks, shops and buildings and old, dark stoned, ancient buildings, churches with spires popping up all over the
city.
One thing I am learning about the weather in UK and
especially Scotland, it can go from nice and warm, with the sun shining
gloriously, to dark grey, heavy clouds, to rain showers, in 10 minutes. Then
"monkey's wedding", back to
sunshine. I have my layers of clothing
and rain hat and raincoat ready at all times.
My umbrella has become an appendage of my body. Soon I will be speaking with a Scottish
accent!
Stopped in the beautiful tiny village called Luss, on the
banks of Loch Lomond. The loch is huge
with mountains up the some of the sides, covered in trees in all the autumn
shades. Beautiful. We walked around the
village, three gifts shops and a lovely coffee shop where we stopped for a
light lunch.
We also posted the postcards to the girls back home, into this
quaint little village post box which is set into the stone wall of the main village gift
shop.
We eventually arrive at our destination called MonessCountry Club in Aberfeldy.
Our unit is lovely, and we are thrilled to be able to
unpack all our things and have a base to live in for 7 days. Living out if suitcases can get tiresome!
We go down to the village and pick up some supplies, and
decide to stay in for the evening, watch some Telly, and unwind from all our
traveling.
One strange thing for us South Africans to get used to,
the unit is NOT serviced. LOL!
Anyway we will make the bed, wash the dishes and keep it
clean. If things get the better of me, I
can always send a plane ticket for Gladys!
So goodnight family and friends, from the misty Scottish
Highlands.
Xxx
